Look, touch, jump in! The charm of the installation art exhibition "Paper Salad"
A solo exhibition has been held at the facility "Iikane Palette", which is a renovated closed school in Tagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and has become a hot topic.
A large amount of torn paper is spread in the empty classroom, which is the venue.
It was a mysterious space where people of all ages and genders would smile involuntarily. And at night, there is a surprising mechanism. What are the thoughts put into this solo exhibition?
This time, we would like to introduce Tadashi Nakamura, the artist who worked on "Paper Salad".
The concept is "art that anyone can make"
It seems that the solo exhibition entitled "Paper Salad" had been held before, but what was your intention this time?
"I'm currently working on a salad menu series. It's like a salad, and there are various materials such as cardboard and vinyl.
The most important point in the salad menu is that anyone can make "paper salad". Whether you're an artist or not, this work is completed by simply tearing and scattering the paper.
In other words, because the line between the viewer and the artist is blurred, anyone can create a work and it can be established as an art. "
At the exhibition venue, where adults feel nostalgia and children feel everyday, and the exhibition venue is filled with shredded paper, it was impressive to see smiles and surprised expressions regardless of age or gender.
"By making it a participatory type that you can actually touch, you can experience the work regardless of the explanation.
I made "Paper Salad" with the hope that it would be equally accepted by everyone.
By doing so, I think that you will be able to lose the hierarchical relationship, invalidate everything, and finally experience a calm space. "
The intention put into the work is also the material.
As one of the means to invalidate everything, it seems that the materials used for this solo exhibition are A4 copy paper and fluorescent paper, which are easily available.
"Change of viewpoint" that paper salad shows
When the sun goes down, the venue changes completely.
In a space like the sea that shines softly blue under the black light, the paper side that shines in fluorescent light strengthens the impact.
What is the message behind this dramatic change?
"In my creative activities, I use the theme of" light and darkness "and express it in a participatory installation using everyday things and events."
It's easy to think that one thing or event is the same, but in fact it's a mechanism that allows you to experience different perspectives.
This time, we are expressing the moment when natural light shines into the classroom (Day Watch) and the moment when black light is used at night (Night Watch). "
I worked on a new artistic path
Whether you're an adult or a child, or someone who hasn't had a chance to come into contact with art, "Paper Salad" is full of exciting gimmicks. What are your future activities?
"This time the venue is a closed classroom, but basically any place can be used for'paper salad'. I like Palette, there are many places that haven't been used yet, so I'd like to explore new areas in the future. "
"Paper salad" with many potentials. It may be that artist Nakamura presents a new sense of value for art by "invalidating everything".
